Bendigo Primary School
Improved Learning Environment: Better Learning Outcomes
Space has a significant impact on learning. Equipping the space with resources that help facilitate learning will improve the classroom environment and will eventually assist in the achievement of educational outcomes. Bendigo Primary School is one of the many schools that have been proactive in developing their learning spaces.
John Scobie, principal, shared with Furnware the positive transition the school had made in outfitting all classrooms with a uniformed furniture system that provided comfort and minimised distraction. “We had furniture in various sizes and compositions, and it was hard and rigid for the students,” John says, “but we were attracted to the research and development that was behind the Bodyfurn system”. “This system, John continues, looks at how students sit in various ways and how they learn; it was the only furniture that allowed flexibility.”
Experiencing the Bodyfurn System
The school had initially engaged the students in trialling the system. John says that the students affirmed the school decision when they voted for the Bodyfurn System. “They found the Sled Chair far more comfortable than the others; they even preferred it to the padded ones.” Observing students reaction, John adds, it was evident that Furnware had looked at furniture critically and researched designs that would make students comfortable and focused on their learning.
